Virtual Doula Service Challenges and Strategies

Khefri Riley will walk participants through the basics of transitioning from home visiting care to online. Topics to be discussed include: combating barriers to informed consent, assessing for safety, and promoting privacy and confidentiality. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the nuances of non-verbal communication, trauma-informed approaches, and using moments of dysregulation as opportunities for teaching coping strategies within the context of virtual care.

Training Objectives:

  1. Develop skills to facilitate a smooth transition to virtual home visits for both provider and client.
  2. Develop skills around creating a safe, trauma-informed space for clients to share openly during interactions with home visitors to ensure full and accurate assessment.
  3. Increase practitioner understanding of assessing for risk, safety, and how to plan for unexpected issues that may arise in virtual home visits.
